Lviv – UNESCO City of Literature Award is an annual Ukrainian literary award which is presented to a writer or translator for the original or translated literary work in Ukrainian. The award is created to praise the works of contemporary literature and to give them public resonance.

The main values of the Award:

• enunciating principles of humanism;
• building bridges of understanding;
• supporting the freedom of speech and self-expression;
• - intercultural communication and tolerance promotion.

Cash reward – 150 000 UAH.

The author’s work should conform to the generally accepted humanistic values; its content should not offend or demean the honor and dignity of Ukrainian people, or promote separatism. The works with the signs of plagiarism and/or copyright infringement will not be accepted. Apart from that, the work nominated must be available in print and electronic form, and the work in Ukrainian should be published for the first time during the previous calendar year.

Nominees can be proposed by the publishing houses, bookstores, and libraries, by the public, professional or creative organizations, as well as cultural and educational institutions of various forms of ownership, which in their statutory activities have a "literature" direction.

To apply for competition, one should provide one printed and one electronic copy of the nominated work, an application addressed to the mayor of Lviv, and the consent of the author /translator to review the work within the competition.
