Lviv UNESCO City of Literature in Reykjavik

On September 5-10th we gathered for the Annual UNESCO Cities of Literature Conference. This year we have traveled to the farthest north capital of the world - Reykjavik, Iceland.

Conference was held in hybrid format so everyone who, for some reasons, didn't come to Reykjavik in person, had an opportunity to connect to us online. But does this mean that there were a little of us to attend the Conference? Not al all, we have met another 19 representatives f Cities of Literature from different parts of the world.

A trip ro Reykjavik is a 5-day active work on international projects and checking on the priorities of Cities' of Literature work for the next year, or years.

Cities of Literature presented theit project in two main directions - best practises and project proposals for international projects and we want to share some of them:

  • Angouleme - the first and the only (by now) French City of Literature is really special. This is a city, first of all, of comix. We know a lot of French comix culture, and Angouleme is the one who have decided to care about this sphere of literature. More about Angouleme Comix Festival –following link: https://www.bdangouleme.com/ .
  • Edinburgh - the first City of Literature. Edinburgh presented a very special inclusive project called "Digital Storytellers in Residence", that really takes the storyteling to a new level. That's a multilevel project, the essence of which lies in that elder people who usually don't go to libraries are happy to come here to record their life stories to some digital media. So that:
people come to the libraries and enjoy it 😉
elder people get to know how to use digital media and gadgets
people share their stories. And this is always very appreciated.
